ABOUT US
In 2023, we had the exciting opportunity to attend the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Play to Lead Summit where we were inspired to pursue our idea of creating an all female flag football club in Edmonton. Playing on mixed teams and seeing a lack of female representation in the sport motivated us to create the Flag Like a Girl community with the intention of providing opportunity for girls to not only learn and play flag football, but to grow as confident athletes and leaders.
We began with the idea of hosting a females in flag development camp and with the support and encouragement of our sponsors and families, we went from an NFL Females in Flag development camp , to hosting a large developmental camp day at Foote Field, organizing and hosting a camp for Metro Athletics, planning and hosting a collaborative camp with the Seattle Seahawks and with the Arizona Cardinals, and ultimately creating and coaching our Flag Like a Girl league. In the fall of 2025, we had the privilege of attending the Calgary CT Jumpstart Play to Lead Summit, this time as presenters. We were thrilled to share our experience with developing our Flag Like a Girl league! Most recently, we were honored to be awarded Coach of the Year from the Edmonton Elks.

AVERY WITHERSPOON
Co Founder and Head Coach
Avery has been playing sports since she was 3 years old and has always enjoyed being active. She has 10 years of experience on competitive soccer and basketball teams and over the last 4 years, has played and coached flag football. She has been the quarterback on Team Alberta for the last 3 years and is currently the quarterback for the X Factor Phantom team. Avery is attending the University of Alberta pursuing her Animal Sciences Degree.

TESSA MUDDLE
Co Founder and Head Coach
Tessa has always loved trying new sports. She has been a competitive gymnast and enjoys running, track and weightlifting. She played tackle football for the Raiders and Team Alberta for 2 years. Over the last 4 years, Tessa has played and coached flag football. She has been on the Alberta provincial team for the last 4 years and is currently playing defence and offence for the X Factor Flight team. Tessa is attending the University of Victoria pursuing her Physics Degree.
