Story
In 2023, we had the exciting opportunity to attend the CT Jumpstart Play To Lead Program. There we met Gaby Estrada, the Girls Forward executive director, and other strong women in sports, who motivated us to pursue our idea of creating an all female flag football club in Edmonton. Playing on mixed teams and seeing a lack of female representation in the sport inspired us to create the Flag Like a Girl community with the intention of providing opportunity for girls to not only learn and play flag football, but to grow as confident athletes and leaders.
We began with the idea of hosting a females in flag development camp and with the support and encouragement of our coach, Darryl Draudson, we went from an NFL Females in Flag development camp , to hosting a large developmental camp day at Foote Field, organizing and hosting a camp for Metro Athletics, planning and hosting a collaborative camp with the Seattle Seahawks, and ultimately creating and coaching our Flag Like a Girl league.
